Poker Champions

Hilbert Shirey is a professional poker player out of Winter Haven, FL. Not much is known about the upbringing of this professional, but he has established quite a body of work in the poker world.

He first exploded onto the poker scene in 1987 when he made two final tables at the World Series of Poker. He made the final table of the $1,500 Limit Holdem event and finished 6th. He then won the $1,500 No Limit Holdem event to claim his first WSOP bracelet and $171,600 in prize money.

Shirey would have several strong finishes over the next few years. He finished in the money of the 1990 WSOP Main Event and made the final table of the $1,500 7 Card Stud event in 1990. He finished 3rd in that event. Shirey made the final table of the Main Event in 1991 and finished 7th for his strongest Main Event finish to date.

In 1995, Shirey would again win WSOP gold. He first took the $2,500 Pot Limit Omaha event for his second bracelet, and then the very next day won the $2,500 Pot Limit Holdem event for his third bracelet. Pot Limit events seemed to be Shirey’s specialty as he would go on with several deep money finishes in Pot Limit events over the next few years at the WSOP.

After winning his 3rd bracelet, Shirey has only had one 6 figure payday in poker when he won the $3,000 Pot Limit Omaha event at the 2004 World Poker Classic. Shirey has had many strong finishes in events over the years, cashing three times in WPT events and consistently cashing at the World Series of Poker. He even cashed four times in the 2008 WSOP.

For his career, Hilbert Shirey has over 1.296 Million in lifetime earnings. This WSOP regular should be around for many years to come and very well may come out on top in an event soon, especially if it is a Pot Limit game.
