Poker Champions

Steve Zolotow is one of the more solid players that you will encounter on the professional poker circuit. He holds a Bachelors degree in Statistics and an MBA in Finance. As a result, he brings a very calculated approach to the poker table that has allowed him to finish strong in many poker tournaments all over the world.

Zolotow started his gambling days in backgammon. This continued for many years with poker becoming a secondary interest. He used to be a player at the famed Mayfair Club in New York City. As poker began to grow in popularity, Zolotow switched over to poker as his primary game of choice, and in the end it has proven to be the wisest decision.

Zolotow has numerous cashes at the World Series of Poker over the years. He has 17 final table finishes and two World Series of Poker bracelets. His first bracelet came in 1995 when he outlasted Doyle Brunson to win the $5,000 Chinese Poker event. His only other bracelet so far came in the 2001 World Series of Poker when he won the $3,000 Pot Limit Holdem bracelet.

In addition to his WSOP bracelets, Zolotow has three other wins to his credit. After winning the 1995 Chinese Poker bracelet, he went on a few months later to win the $5,000 Chinese Poker bracelet at the Hall of Fame Poker Classic. In 2002, he took the $2,000 Limit Holdem event at the Jack Binion World Poker Open. In 2004, he took the $5,000 Pot Limit Omaha event at the Crown Australasian Poker Championship in Melbourne Australia.

Zolotow also has 9 cashes in World Poker Tour events. His only final table in the WPT came at the 2004 Party Poker Million. This was one of the last Main Event’s that the WPT held as a Limit Holdem event. This would also prove to be Zolotow’s biggest payday to date at $259,684.

Zolotow primarily started poker as a cash game player. Over the years he has moved over to tournaments, and that explains a lot of his style. Many feel his style doesn’t translate well to tournaments, but $1.8 Million in live tournament earnings and a sponsorship with Full Tilt Poker would prove otherwise.

Outside of poker, Zolotow owns several bars in New York City. They are Doc Holliday’s, Nice Guy Eddie’s, and the Vasmay Lounge. He also enjoys playing both bridge and chess. Zolotow has also been a featured columnist in Card Player Magazine, sharing his wealth of poker knowledge to the masses.

It is said that Zolotow does not like the fact that No Limit Holdem has become so dominant over all the other games. This is likely due to the fact that Zolotow is a strong player in all games. When you play Steve Zolotow, you will not encounter a wild and aggressive player like you will some. What you will encounter is a man with decades of poker knowledge and experience that will provide one of the most difficult challenges to you when you sit at the poker table.
